We may all acknowledge the threat
posed by earthquakes in the Los Angeles region, but have we become too
complacent? Are recent stories in the press about unrecognized faults and
concrete buildings a wake-up call or an over-reaction? What will be the impact
of the new building code which incorporates more stringent seismic
requirements? Has seismic knowledge and computer modeling advanced
substantially such that we can be smart about how and where we
build?
