BOOZING YOUR BOTTOM LINE: ECONOMIC NECESSITY OR NEIGHBORHOOD NUISANCE?

Friday, December 9, 2011

Almost eighty years after the repeal of prohibition some of LA's communities have made food and beverage businesses a central component of urban redevelopment while others remain bone dry. Join the Westside Urban Forum as we ask:

  • What is the right role for bars and restaurants in a vital urban environment?
  • What are the real impacts of liquor establishments on a neighborhood?
  • Does the Conditional Use Permit and Liquor License process appropriately measure and mitigate the impacts of such establishments?
  • Can neighborhood business districts maintain urban vitality with little or no liquor licenses?
  • In a dispersed city with still limited public transportation options what are the safety impacts of limiting liquor uses to entertainment districts?
  • Is the City process for enforcing conditions on alcohol-serving establishments working?
