Like an aging diva, Century City is seeking reinvention with a star turn as a New Urbanist village in the heart of the densely developed Westside. The addition of numerous highrise residential projects to the huge existing base of offices, retail, hotels and entertainment is being touted as a model for future urban centers. Yet these same projects instill fear of even worse gridlock if the benefits of mixed-use development do not pan out.
Property owners have banded together to commission a new pedestrian connectivity plan, "Greening of Century City", to link together the self-contained islands of 20th century-style developments and create a new community.
