DREAMS DEFFERED ... and REALIZED

Friday, September 16, 2011

While many projects approved before the crash have yet to materialize, the Westside cities of Beverly Hills, Culver City, West Hollywood, and Santa Monica are seeing signs of life in 2011. Both public and private projects are finally blossoming, the result of comparatively strong local economies and investments in transit systems.

Public project examples range from the exciting retrofits of the historic Beverly Hills Post Office into the Wallis Annenberg Performing Arts Center, and Culver City's retrofit of an historic theater to create the Kirk Douglas Theater, to municipal projects, including West Hollywood's exciting new Library (opening October 1st), and Santa Monica's 6-acre Palisades Garden Walk Park and Esplanade, connecting the Expo Station to the Pier. The Westside cities seem barely impacted by economy's decline. But will these key City investments actually catalyze the many private projects still waiting to move forward ?

Please join the Westside Urban Forum -- note our new location -- at the Beverly Hills Country Club, 3084 Motor Avenue, Los Angeles -- on Friday, September 16th at 7:30am with the Mayors of each of these cities in a timely conversation moderated by Cecilia Estolano.
