Inglewood: Poised for Major Investment

Friday, March 15, 2013

The uniquely diverse city of Inglewood stands on the verge of over $2 billion in direct investment through 4 major projects:
  • Hollywood Park Racetrack's master infill development by Wilson Meany
  • The Forum's renovation/re-launching as a major concert venue by Madison Square Garden
  • The Crenshaw Line's light rail construction by Metro
  • Century Blvd’s redevelopment from the 405 Freeway to Vermont Blvd
With the exit of the Lakers, Clippers and Kings in 1999 and the long declining fortunes of the horse racing industry, Inglewood could have been destined to be overlooked by development, as many African-American and Latino communities long have been.

Instead the actions of civic leaders, major developers and notably a large local church, have led to significant series of developments. Moreover, Inglewood will incorporate a combination of features that few other cities can claim including a large infill residential community spanning 238 acres, an existing card club slated to be reimagined with a new operator, a national entertainment company (MSG), and direct connections to LAX.
