Shock of the Old: Historical or Hysterical Preservation?

Friday, April 20, 2012

Is Los Angeles at a point in its history where it recognizes it has one? If so, does this go against the grain of its ethos? How does LA reconcile the acceptance of things "old" when its notoriety, its persona, has always been about "newness"- where everything is "bleeding edge", everything is "fresh". But wait- there is change in the wind. Historicists and preservationists are coming forward to remind people of the things we need to hold on to. Things, places, buildings that have formed us that must remain to tell "our story". How does our history play into our future and how does it energize our local economy?

Please join us on Friday, April 20th, to listen to our panel of experts moderated by Ken Bernstein, Manager, Los Angeles Office of Historic Resources & Principal City Planner, Policy Planning. The panel includes Wayne Ratkovich, noted presentation developer of The Ratkovich Company, Bill Delvac, a land use and preservationist attorney with the firm Armbruster, Goldsmith, and Delvac, and Kimberli Meyer, the Director of the MAK Center, which supports the purchase and reuse of structures of architectural and historical significance.
