Is Pedestrian too Pedestrian? : Creating Culture and Character in LA Streets

Fri Jul 18, 2008

Look beyond 3rd Street Promenade and The Grove or The Americana at Brand and you will find vibrant and signature streetscapes that bring community and culture together. Yet as traditional malls search for a future through major renovations and reconfigurations, neighborhood retail and commercial corridors need to revisit the 4 point approach to the Main Street paradigm - organization, promotion, design and business development - in order to keep pace with the newer pedestrian-centric and less auto-focused retail developments cropping up. While infill retail and mixed use, density and parking are debated, preserving character and culture is more critical than ever to creating vibrant pedestrian friendly retail and commercial streetscapes and corridors.

Wouldn't you like to know the challenges and opportunities facing authentic retail streetscapes, or are we destined for just driving miles between malls?

Please join the Westside Urban Forum on Friday, July 18th, 2008 at 7:30am to hear the secrets of success, and what's next for these Westside and other neighborhood streets.
